The Orton-Gillingham Word Finder is a resource book to help professionals access quickly those words needed for developing the Orton-Gillingham lessons and for decoding, encoding, word and sentence reading, oral reading, and dictation.

This resource makes it easy to locate, select, and use words for planning lessons, and serves as a useful reference guide when presenting skills, concepts, rules, or explanations to individuals or small groups. It is, however, important to select words randomly for each phonogram, concept, or generalization presented in an Orton-Gillingham lesson. Words presented in “word families” (at, bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, rat, sat vat) or in alphabetical order would not be in keeping with the principles of Orton-Gillingham. Selection of words should be within the student’s speaking and listening language.

Orton-Gillingham Sentences for Reading and Dictation — Order on Amazon with this link

Orton-Gillingham Sentences for Reading and Dictation is a resource that provides trained Orton-Gillingham teachers with a bank of 2,628 sentences for reading and dictation to incorporate in an OG Lesson Plan. While there are many excellent resources with reading and dictation sentences, accessing them requires thumbing through several books and deciding which ones are applicable. Having prewritten or scripted sentences is not intended to replace the value of teachers generating original sentences. Prepared scripted sentences allow teachers additional time to acquire, study, and apply the principles of Orton-Gillingham. This resource provides a model of various sentences that can be reworked to generate new sentences. It’s another way to reach the same outcome and giving flexibility to the teacher.

Each phonogram, concept, or generalization in Sentences for Reading and Dictation within a Level includes 12 sentences varying in length and structure: 6 sentences for reading and 6 sentences for dictation (except Level 1, which as 10 sentences for reading). Reading sentences tend to be longer than dictation sentences. All sentences build on previously presented phonograms, skills, concepts, or generalizations. Adjustments to sentences depend on the teaching sequence presented to the student.
